about

This album is about making lots from very little, beauty in imperfection, bringing focus onto small things, listening with an awareness of expectations.

I hope you enjoy it :)

If you'd like to ask me anything, please do!

The album is full of examples of two alternating notes repeating themselves a lot. I hope to draw the listener in beyond the surface level repetition. The piano keys I'm pressing are the same but the volume and timbre are always fluctuating and the sounds can never be truly equally spaced out in time.

I think there's a beauty in hearing the presence of a human in a piece of music. Unintended sounds can tell us something about the context of a piece of music.

Perhaps listen to the pairing of the piano and violin parts playing in unison on the track complimentary. I hope to bring the listener's attention to the way the physicality of the different instruments manifest themselves in the sound. One sound bowed and sustained, the other percussive.

My love of Philip Glass' piano works is certainly present in this album. I'm a fan of Glass' Metamorphosis pieces. The first of the five pieces has an incredibly insistent alternation between the notes E and G, these notes get repeated a lot. The other pieces also greatly feature alternation between two repeating notes.

Another thing I like about Glass' music is the idea of alternation finding its way into the structure of the music. I also like that he makes you wait for things, leading to what can be a very sweet but subtle pay off. I'm especially thinking of Mad Rush (it has always seemed a strange title for the piece, but I imagine there's a good reason for it).
