I decided to write an ambient album in 4 days.

I'll be releasing a YouTube video showing you how I made all of it! I hope to show that music creation doesn't have to be complicated or expensive.

And I'll be releasing all of the stems on Freesound. You'll be able to use all of the sounds from this album, for free, if you wish to! If you do use my sounds to make work that you release to the world, all you need to do is attribute me and contact me so that I can enjoy the project you've created!

I limited myself to making the album using Audacity, which is a piece of open source audio software. Audacity has a special place in my heart, as it's what I used to create my first pieces of electronic music. However, I used Logic to master these tracks.

The first track, x4, is made up of 4 chords that are repeated in different iterations. Variation is created through layering of different sounds and different lengths of overlap of chord sequence repetitions. The source material is a short recording of my electric piano and some recordings of me playing the violin.

The second track, dM, features three recordings of me slowly playing a two octave D major scale on the saxophone. The recordings start shortly one after the other and are slightly stretched and reverbed.

The bonus track, A.C., is the sound of a ventilator layered with the sound of me whistling through my teeth. Both audio files are stretched to about 5 times their length.

The album relies fairly heavily on Audacity's Paulstretch plug-in, which, by the way, is not as powerful as the standalone version. I also used Audacity's reverb and noise reduction plug-ins. And that's about it really.
